Negative keywords tell AdWords not to show your ad for any search containing the term identified as a negative keyword. For example, if we add the word “free” as a negative keyword, then any search containing the word “free” will not trigger your ad to be shown.

We’ve found that adding negative keywords on an ongoing basis improves the performance of the account, and reduces wasted ad spend.

We use a lead generation equation to help us answer the question on identifying the right budget. The equations are simple:

(Revenue / Sales Period) / Average Sale = Number of Customers

Number of Customers / Conversion Rate = Number of Leads

Number of Leads / Conversion Rate on Traffic = Amount of Traffic
